Celebrating our Founder

In some of our parishes we celebrated St. Arnold Janssen's feast as a great solemnity on Sunday 19 January 2020.
We translated all liturgical prayers and texts of the day into our local languages Ndebele and Shona, so everyone could understand the liturgy. We decorated a picture of St. Arnold Janssen in our churches with flowers, candles, and fabrics. At the beginning of the celebration, we presented the story of St. Arnold and within the intercessions we prayed for Catholic world missions and missionaries.

Mission Sunday Activities

On 20 October 2019 we celebrated the Mission Sunday.

We did a great job in our parishes: individual evangelizing of those who needed to hear the Good News, presentations on the missionary rosary, praying the missionary rosary with parishioners, distributing the Pope's message to the youth, Eucharistic adorations for the missions, teaching a song about this year's theme "Baptized and Sent". Some of us dedicated more time to our private prayer for missions and missionaries during the whole month of October.

Our Half-national Sessions

There were two half-national DWD sessions because we couldn’t travel to one place from all over the country for desired one national event. On 24 August 2019 in Budiriro, Harare and on 1 September 2019 in Nketa, Bulawayo we had a great time of sharing, learning, and practising the spirituality of our saints, mission animation, and evangelization.

Visit Our Session

Visit our Virtual Circle to experience our prayers, sharing, and teaching via WhatsApp or email.
You can attend three sessions as a guest.
Afterwards you can join us as a member if you wish.

STATUTES OF THE DIVINE WORD DISCIPLES IN ZIMBABWE

Jesus Christ is our Lord. His love is our love, his mission is our mission.

General Statutes and Membership

The MISSION of the Divine Word Disciples is to actively participate in missionary efforts of the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD).
It includes prayers for missions and missionaries; promotion of mission awareness and missionary vocations; evangelization; support for SVD projects and events.

The SPIRITUALITY of the Divine Word Disciples is based on the spirituality of the SVD and its founder St. Arnold Janssen.
A Divine Word Disciple builds a deep relationship with the Incarnate Word of God and his Most Sacred Heart, the Holy Spirit and his Bride Mary, angels, patrons, and saints of SVD.

Every Divine Word Disciple makes a PERSONAL SACRIFICE for the Mission of the Church.
A member decides on his/her own way of the regular support for the Divine Word Missionaries’ efforts – e.g. daily missionary rosary prayer, an hour of work weekly, monthly contribution in money or kind etc.

To become a MEMBER of the Divine Word Disciples, one has to agree with these Statutes and decide on his/her Personal Sacrifice.
The membership has no limits based on age, gender, ethnicity, language, religion, socioeconomic status, sacramental status, relationship status.

Circles and Sessions

A LOCAL CIRCLE is a group of the Divine Word Disciples who come together at least once a month for their Session.
It consists of at least two members; otherwise the size of a circle is not limited.

There is a national VIRTUAL CIRCLE for those members who cannot join any Local Circle for their own reasons, temporarily or permanently.
It is an online platform for virtual Sessions available to every member.

Regular SESSIONS of a Circle happen at least once a month at place and time suitable for most of its members.
Although Session attendance is not obligatory, all members are encouraged to attend Sessions of their Circle or a Circle to which they are temporarily closer or the Virtual Circle.

VISITORS are always welcome at every Circle Session.
They are treated with respect equal to the members and at the end of the Session they are invited to join the Divine Word Disciples.

Local Sessions are organized and led by a FACILITATOR.
Facilitators rotate according to the order in the Circle Database, so every session is facilitated by a different member of the Circle, according to the Circle Session Guide.

Projects and Documents

Every PROJECT of the Divine Word Disciples has to serve their Mission and be in accordance with Catholic values.
A Project is led and managed by the member who initiated it.

DOCUMENTS of a Local Circle, such as forms, reports, correspondence, Circle Database, and Finance Diary are kept in a Circle Folder.
The Circle Folder is always kept by current Facilitator.

FINANCES of a Local Circle are kept in an envelope in the Circle Folder.
A Circle may keep some money for its Projects, events, or administration expenses.

Projects, Documents, and Finances of the Divine Word Disciples on the NATIONAL level are handled by the Virtual Circle.
If there is no member of the Virtual Circle who could handle any of these, the Spiritual Director has to take care of it.

Cooperation

The SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR of the Divine Word Disciples is the SVD Mission Secretary in Zimbabwe.
He is responsible for fluent cooperation of the Divine Word Disciples and the Divine Word Missionaries; provides news and teachings for Circle Sessions; supervises the documents, projects, and Personal Sacrifice decisions of the members; and improves these Statutes.

Cooperation with other SVD MISSIONARIES is highly recommended.
Individual members of the Divine Word Missionaries can be invited to participate in the Circle Sessions and Projects.

Every member is encouraged to attend spiritual activities and missionary efforts of an SVD COMMUNITY, if it is possible.
Community prayers, retreats, celebrations and Holy Masses, as well as various local projects of SVD communities, create good opportunities for mutual help and understanding.

The whole Circles or individual members may offer their cooperation and may also be asked by the Divine Word Missionaries to cooperate in various SVD PROJECTS.
The cooperation can only start after proper planning and agreement of both sides, under supervision of the Spiritual Director.

Cooperation in OTHER PROJECTS (e.g. projects of parish, diocese, association, school, NGO, city etc.) is also possible.
This kind of cooperation can start only after ensuring that it is in accordance with the Divine Word Disciples Mission and it cannot endanger reputation and morals of the Divine Word Disciples.

Individual Cases

A member has a right to CHANGE his/her Personal Sacrifice or Circle without any explanation.
The Circle Database and also the National Database has be updated on the change as soon as possible.

Any COMPLAINTS about documents, members, Divine Word Missionaries, or activities of the Divine Word Disciples have to be addressed to the Spiritual Director or an SVD Superior in Zimbabwe.
Every member has a right to complain and being replied by the SVD authority as soon as possible.

In case of a member’s MISBEHAVIOUR that may endanger reputation and morals of the Divine Word Disciples, his/her Circle has to be addressed and resolve the issue with the member.
A problematic member can be suspended by the Circle.
